A middle-aged man, Elijah Agbo from Imilike Agu village in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been murdered in cold blood.
The act, THISDAY learnt, was allegedly perpetrated by his wife, Grace Agbo. The accused was believed to have hit her husband on the head with a heavy object while he was asleep.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amarizu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday, said the deceased husband had no inkling of the impending doom when he innocently went to bed.
Amarizu said it was not clear yet what the motive behind the attack was, as the couple was believed to have been married for about 13 years.
"The deceased husband was hale and hearty and was living with the wife Grace Agbo and daughter, Deborah Agbo, a twelve-year-old girl.
"On that fateful day, March 5, 2015, at about 9 pm before Deborah was suddenly asked by the mother whose motives were not known to go to bed.
"It was gathered that on that fateful day at about 9 pm, the deceased Elijah Agbo who hailed from Imilike Agu village in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, but residing at Mbu Amon in Isiuzo Local Government Area also of the state was with his daughter in the house along with the wife identified as Grace Agbo when suddenly the daughter was asked to go to bed by Grace Agbo the mother.
It was further gathered that as Deborah went into her room, she heard the sound of a heavy thud and came out quickly. She then encountered her father lying in a pool of his own blood which was still gushing out from his head," the police PRO said.
He revealed that it was discovered that the mother had used a big stick to hit the husband on the head, which allegedly caused him severe injury, forced him to fall down, and became unconscious instantly before finally dying from the heavy blow to his head.
The body of the deceased, he said, was deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, Ikem, for autopsy while the suspect was arrested by the police and is helping them in their investigations as they try to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
